Aiwyn + Claude: Helping Firms Navigate the AI Future of Tax

NOTE: (FAQ at end)

Aiwyn Tax is now part of Anthropic’s Claude “Connector” ecosystem. We’re doing this for one reason: To make sure accounting firms are at the forefront of how AI gets applied to tax.

A shift is happening in how tax work begins. For decades, tax work has started inside firm systems. That’s changing. AI tools like Claude are quickly becoming a new starting point for tax-related work — for both consumers and professionals. People are asking questions, running scenarios, and exploring outcomes directly inside these interfaces.

In other words: the “front door” of tax is starting to shift.

Our belief is simple: As that shift happens, firms should not be left reacting to it. They should be leading it. Aiwyn’s role is to make sure that as new entry points like Claude emerge, firms like yours stay in control — with accurate calculations, governed workflows, and a clear, safe path to adopt AI.

What Aiwyn Tax + Claude can enable now

Aiwyn Tax is now available as a Connector within Claude: https://claude.com/connectors/aiwyn-tax

At a practical level, your team can:

  • Run simple 1040 calculations
  • Test tax scenarios and “what-if” cases
  • Generate PDFs of completed return forms
  • Explore how AI can support tax-related work

All within a familiar, conversational interface — no system changes, no workflow disruption, no need to replace your current tools. In the near term, this is best understood as a low-risk way to explore.

It works alongside your existing stack (CCH, UltraTax, etc.), giving your team a way to start building intuition around AI-assisted tax work before committing to any operational changes.

What stays with your team

It’s just as important to be clear about what this is not:

  • This is not a replacement for your tax software
  • This does not file or e-file returns
  • This is not a production workflow — yet

And importantly: And importantly: Firms should be thoughtful about if and how they use real client data in the current version. Because the Connector runs inside Claude, we recommend treating it like any external system and starting with anonymized or representative data in line with your firm’s data governance policies.

All outputs remain subject to your firm’s review, approval, and delivery.

Why Aiwyn partnered with Anthropic and why it matters for firms

There is a lot of noise (and opportunity) around AI and what it means for the profession. The word “Aiwyn” is old English meaning “wise friend.” That’s how we think about our role in this moment, as a guide helping firms navigate a rapidly changing landscape with clarity, pragmatism, and control.

Partnering with Anthropic and making Aiwyn Tax available inside Claude is a direct expression of that. Anthropic came to us, not the other way around. That’s because accuracy in tax is non-negotiable, and very difficult to get right. The foundation we’ve built gives them confidence:

  • Over 1 million 1040 returns processed (via ColumnTax)
  • TaxCalcBench, a rigorous benchmarking framework to validate accuracy across thousands of real-world scenarios
  • API-first infrastructure built for deterministic, verifiable outputs — not probabilistic guesses

Put simply: Claude provides the intelligence. Aiwyn provides the correctness. Our view on what this means for firms is straightforward: AI isn’t removing firms from tax — it’s removing low-value work from firms.

That creates real upside:

  • Faster turnaround on simple returns
  • Better margins on historically low-margin work
  • More capacity for advisory and planning relationships

At the same time, as the cost of tax preparation decreases, demand tends to increase — more returns get done, more clients engage, more planning opportunities emerge.

The value doesn’t disappear. It shifts. And the firms that engage with this shift early will be better positioned to capture that value.

Where Aiwyn fits in the AI-driven future of tax

As AI becomes a more common interface for tax work, three layers become critical:

  • The interface: how your team (or clients) interact with the work
  • The calculation layer: accurate, verifiable outputs
  • The control layer: governance, oversight, and workflow integration

Aiwyn provides the calculation and control layers. More broadly, this is core to what we’re building at Aiwyn: a modern operating system for accounting firms — one that connects client experience, workflows, and an expanding ecosystem of tools, including AI.

How this evolves over time

What’s happening here is not a fixed point in time, it’s a direction.

Aiwyn is actively expanding our tax calculation engine: broader form coverage, more scenarios, more jurisdictions. We don’t have total coverage today, and we’ll be the first to say that. But where we do have coverage, our accuracy is superb and that foundation is what makes this partnership with Anthropic meaningful.

At the same time, AI systems like Claude are improving rapidly in how they reason, guide, and interact with complex workflows. The underlying premise is simple: foundation models will keep getting better.

Our goal is to make sure accounting firms can leverage that progress directly not by replacing their systems, but by connecting those models to a trusted foundation for correctness.

When you combine the two:

  • Aiwyn provides the deterministic calculation layer: accurate, verifiable, built for real-world tax
  • Claude provides the reasoning and interaction layer: understanding context, guiding workflows, surfacing insights

The result is a system that gets more capable over time. Not just because the models improve, but because they’re grounded in a calculation engine built for the profession.

We want firms to be benefiting from that evolution, not scrambling to catch up with it.

What’s coming next

What you see today in Claude is Phase 1: exploration.

It gives your team a safe way to test what’s possible using anonymized data and controlled scenarios. But this is just the starting point.

We’re already working toward Phase 2, which will introduce:

  • Firm authentication and credentialing
  • Governed environments for data access
  • The ability to safely work with real client scenarios

This will create a path toward production-grade, AI-assisted tax workflows with the controls, security, and auditability firms expect.

And this is not Anthropic-exclusive. Our goal is to support firms in a multi-model world, whether that’s Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Copilot, or others. Aiwyn’s role is to be the trusted calculation and control layer, regardless of which AI tools your firm uses.

If your firm is interested in early access or helping shape Phase 2, we welcome the conversation.

Getting started

The best next step is simple:

  1. Install the Aiwyn Tax Connector in Claude
  2. Test scenarios using anonymized data
  3. Start building familiarity within your team

The fastest way to explore is to install the Connector and ask Claude: “What can I do with Aiwyn Tax?” We’ve also put together a detailed FAQ below covering how this works, data considerations, and what’s coming next.

FAQ

What is Aiwyn announcing?

Aiwyn has joined Anthropic’s Claude Connector ecosystem. This means Aiwyn’s tax calculation engine is now available inside Claude, allowing users to run tax calculations and structured scenarios directly within an AI interface.

What’s the simplest way to understand this?

This is a low-risk way for firms to begin exploring AI-assisted tax work.

Claude provides the interface — how your team interacts. Aiwyn provides the calculation engine — ensuring outputs are accurate and verifiable.

Why is Aiwyn doing this?

Because the way tax work begins is changing. Historically, work started inside firm systems. Increasingly, it’s also starting inside AI tools like Claude.

We believe the “front door” of tax is shifting — and firms should be leading that shift, not reacting to it. Our role is to make sure that wherever tax work starts, firms stay in control.

Why did Anthropic choose to work with Aiwyn?

Because accuracy in tax is non-negotiable — and very difficult to get right.

Aiwyn has spent years building a modern tax calculation engine, including processing over 1 million 1040 returns and developing TaxCalcBench, a structured framework to validate calculations across thousands of real-world scenarios.

Claude provides the intelligence — Aiwyn provides the calculation.

Why did Aiwyn choose Anthropic? Will you partner with other AI companies?

Anthropic approached Aiwyn based on the strength of our engine. That made it a natural place to start.

But our goal isn’t to align with a single provider. We expect firms to operate in a multi-model world, and we’re building Aiwyn to support that — whether firms use Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Copilot, or others.

What can our firm actually do with this today?

  • Run simple 1040 calculations
  • Test tax scenarios and “what-if” cases
  • Generate PDFs of completed return forms
  • Explore how AI fits into your workflows

This is best understood as an exploration environment, not a production system.

Do we need to change anything in our current systems?

No. This runs entirely alongside your existing environment. Your current systems (CCH, UltraTax, etc.) remain your system of record.

Who inside our firm should be using this?

  • Tax innovation leaders
  • Forward-leaning partners
  • Teams exploring AI adoption
  • Training and onboarding scenarios

This is especially useful for firms that want to build internal intuition around AI without operational risk.

Should we use real client data with this today?

That is your decision, but the Aiwyn Tax Connector runs inside Claude and should be treated as an external system. Our recommendation is to use anonymized, redacted, or test data and follow your firm’s existing data governance policies for third-party AI tools.

Is Aiwyn accessing or storing our data through this?

No. Aiwyn’s role is limited to performing calculations and returning results. Aiwyn does not store firm or client data from Claude sessions, or access your internal systems through this Connector.

However, inputs entered into Claude are processed within Anthropic’s environment — which is why firms should treat it like any external system and use anonymized data.

Is this meant to replace our tax software?

No. This is an additive layer — a way to explore new capabilities alongside your existing systems.

Does this file returns or create a full workflow?

No. There is no e-filing, no end-to-end workflow, and no client delivery built into this experience. All outputs still require firm review and approval.

What’s the real opportunity for firms here?

AI reduces the cost of doing certain types of work. That creates real upside — faster turnaround on simple returns, better margins on historically low-margin work, more capacity for advisory relationships.

At the same time, as costs decrease, demand tends to increase: more returns get completed, more clients engage, more planning opportunities emerge.

The value shifts — it doesn’t disappear.

How should we think about this strategically?

As a way to build optionality and preparedness. This gives your firm a safe way to engage with AI now, learn without risk, and avoid being behind as workflows evolve.

What’s coming next?

What you see today is Phase 1: exploration.

We’re working toward Phase 2, which is expected to include firm authentication and credentialing, governed environments, and the ability to safely use real client scenarios.

Can our firm get involved early?

Yes. We’re actively working with firms that want to help shape how this evolves, participate in early access, and provide feedback on governance and workflows. If you’re interested, reach out.

Where does Aiwyn fit as AI becomes more prevalent in tax?

As AI becomes a new interface for tax work, three layers matter: the interface (Claude), the calculation layer (accuracy), and the control layer (governance and workflow integration).

In this scenario, Aiwyn provides the calculation and control layers while Claude provides the interface — and we’re building toward being the connective infrastructure across an increasingly AI-driven tax ecosystem.

How does this get better over time? Is it a static product?

No — and that’s an important point.

Aiwyn is actively expanding coverage across forms, scenarios, and jurisdictions. Where we have coverage today, accuracy is superb. And we’re building toward broader and broader coverage over time.

Meanwhile, AI systems like Claude are improving rapidly in how they reason and interact with complex workflows. As the models improve, and as Aiwyn’s engine expands, the combined capability grows, not incrementally, but compoundingly.

The goal is straightforward: make sure firms are benefiting from that progress as it happens, rather than discovering it after the fact.

Is Aiwyn moving toward serving consumers directly?

No. Aiwyn is focused on serving accounting firms — helping them operate more efficiently, deliver better experiences, and grow.

What should we do next?

  • Explore the Connector inside Claude
  • Use anonymized/test scenarios
  • Start building familiarity within your team
  • Reach out if you want to go deeper, we’re happy to walk through it with you.
